Icons of the Folk-Spirits Tower at Anmyeon-am Temple
The simple sign over the doorway to the ground-floor Samseong-gak [Three Sages Shrine] of the remarkable 3-storey Folk-spirits Tower of Anmyeon-am Temple (previous page). As usual, this Samseong-gak contains a San-shin altar/painting, a Chil-seong altar/painting and a Dok-seong altar/painting -- fairly unusually, there are no statues in front of the icons -- but in this case, the San-shin is placed in the center -- giving it higher religious status.
The fantastic, impressive, top-quality San-shin painting there! Five dongja attendant-children!
the elaborate Chil-seong painting
the superb modern Dok-seong painting, with four dongja, cranes & turtle!
and finally, the middle-storey Yong-wang-gak [Dragon-King Shrine] has only one altar/icon, but it's a grand one, befitting this temple's location...
