the "Azure Lotus Temple"
The Samseong-gak [Three Sages Shrine] in which these famous Sain-am Cliffs are venerated is dramatically
perched behind them, an excellent example of
Sanshin Altar placement; seen here on an overcast day in April 2011
Excellent 2oth-Cen icon-painting of Sanshin [Mountain-spirit] -- unique style, singular artist,
heavy on Green, even his royal outer-robe -- I haven't seen another quite like this one!
modern Chilseong Painting, fronted by an Amita-bul statue that probably
serves here as
Yaksa-yeorae [medicinal Buddha of healing]
Bukseong-shin [North-Star Spirit of Longevity]  and Sam-shin [triplets-spirit]
wonderful Dokseong  [Lonely Saint], apparently from the same painter as the Sanshin
note the downward-flying bird, and bullocho (or red clouds??) in upper-left corner!
boys hold a sprig of bullocho [mushroom of immortality] and a seondo [immortal peach]
the mountain-king holds a crudly-done sprig of bullocho,  or that could be some kind of root?
stylized leaf-fan
Pindola, the long-eyebrow Arhant -- prototype of Dokseong
At the bottom of the stairway, the Abbott posted a sign that reads:

삼성각   (Samseong-gak)

This Samseong-gak is part of the 5th of out of the Eight Great Views of Danyang.  It is aligned with Sain-am, located
between rugged precipices with rocks of fantastic shapes and cliff, overlooking the ancient valley, and provides us with
a gentle and sacred atmosphere.

For many years, this Samseong-gak has been a prayer-site for the Mountain-spirit.  Pilgrims continuously visit it to
pray, and it has gained a reputation as a generous shrine that miraculously fulfills the devotee’s wishes.

The origin of the name “Samseong-gak” came from enshrining three holy spirits.  At the center of this Buddhist
sanctuary sits the Seven Stars of the Great Bear (Big Dipper) Constellation with a statue of Buddha, on the left sits an
altar-portrait of the Lord of this Mountain, and on the right sits an altar-portrait portrait of Dokseong, disciple of Buddha.

Put your hands together here, to fulfill your dreams and attain your desires!
