Gyo-chon Village with
Choi Clan Mansion
and Woljeong-gyo Bridge
Neighborhood of descendants of "Go-un" Choi Chi-won,
with a colorful legend of Master Wonhyo
The restored Choi Clan aristocratic mansion sits just across Gyeongju's South Stream
from Mt. Namsan, a bit to the northwest of where the Sangseo-jang Shrine is, and just
west of the north end of restored Woljeong-gyo Bridge.
Gyo-chon, a southern neighborhood of the historic Gyeongju city-center, is the ancient home of
the Gyeongju Choi aristocratic clan descendants, since at least the late Unified Shilla Dynasty.
It is a wonderful tourism-oriented area today.  It rests on the north bank of Gyeongju's
Nam-cheon
[South Stream], and just west of the Banwol-gung [Half-Moon Palace] site and Gyerim Forest;
and south of the major Royal Tombs areas.  It includes the Choi Clan aristocratic mansion and
related buildings, the Gyeongju Beobju rice-wine compound, and the Yeoseok-gung Restaurant.
the Woljeong-gyo Bridge across Nam-cheon South Stream, rebuilt 2018-19.
It used to lead fron the South Road and the Mt. Namsan area to the south main gate of Banwol-gung Palace.
