Temples of Hallim Town
on the NW Coast of Jeju-do
Hwang-ryong-sa [Yellow Dragon Temple] of Hallim Town is a bit inland from the NW coast.
It features this ordinary San-shin painting and excellent Yong-wang in the Main Hall, both labeled
in hangeul for the sake of the current generation of visitors who might not know who they are.
Also found at Hwang-ryong-sa was this amazing and important San-shin painting on the interior wall of its Main Hall.  I have never seen another like it in over 1000 Korean temples!  It shows a married couple in traditional (upper-class) Korean clothing, praying to a sacred mountain for a child.  They pray at a crude stone altar on which is only a bowl of fresh clean water and burning incense.  Their prayers bring results -- the (female, grandmotherly) San-shin of this beautiful mountain spiritually appears, carrying to them the son that they piously desire.  This unique worship-painting depicts 'in action' a central aspect of Korea's culture, to which respect of mountains is central.
At Geum-gang-sa [Diamond Temple], the standard Dok-seong, Chil-seong and San-shin paintings (once again, same artist as Tap-sa) are fronted by respective statues, including seven 'officials' representing the Chil-seong.
Enthusiastic tigers are see in the San-shins of Bogwang-sa [Treasure-Brightness Temple] (left) and Haebul-sa [Sea-Buddha Temple] (right).

Keuk-nak-sa (or Geungnaksa) Temple enshrines these San-shin, Yong-wang and Shin-jung paintings within its Main Hall.
