| The spectacular Shinjung [Assembly of Spirits] icon on the west wall of the Main Hall is quite unique -- besides the usual figures such as San-shin, Yong-wang and Guardian Generals it includes seven white-bearded sage-kings, similar to San-shins, and an old man with elongated head -- these probably are the Seven Stars (of the Big Dipper) and the North Star [Buk-seong-shin], and therefore this Shinjung icon is also a Chil-seong icon (there is no separate Chil-seong altar/painting in this temple, just as there is none for San-shin) -- I don't think that I have ever seen this conflated arrangement before!
