The story of how General Yi Seong-gye killed the Japanese pirate-commander Ajibaldo at
this site just east of Hwasu-ri Village near Hwang-san has been told on the previous page.   
Here are photos of the Pi-bawi or "Bloody Rock", a large flat-but-water-worn embedded
boulder on the side of the Rang-cheon Stream, taken by Roger Shepherd in 2009.

This is a small but significant part of Jiri-san's (and Namwon City's) extensive legacies of warfare
and patriotic national defense, the presence of which enhances the deep spiritual traditions.

Looking north across the Rang-cheon Stream to National Highway 24,
where you can see the monument standing on the roadside.
The monument erected on May 31st 1995 by the Namwon Cultural Office,
whose top reads simply "Hwang-san Dae-cheop gwa Pi-bawi"
-- the Bloody Rock of the Great Victory at Hwang-san.
