Artworks of Goesan County, to the NW of Sogni-san National Park
|
Strange overtly sexual
statues dominate the
parking lot of a tourist
restaurant just north of
Sogni-san's Gonglim-sa
Temple, an echo of
Korea's old village-
shamanic fertility traditions.
Above: The ordinary-modern San-shin painting of
Cheong-an-myeon Chilbo-san Dae-hyu-sa Temple.
Right: The Shin-jung painting of Dae-hyu-sa,
with San-shin and Yong-wang prominently
standing flanking the center -- unusual in that
San-shin has a prominence atop his head,
like the North-star Spirit of Longevity.
The Main Hall of Cheong-an-myeon Chilbo-san Bo-an-sa [Treasure-Peace Temple].
Inside that Main Hall, an array of deities. L to R: Jijang-bosal, Yong-wang, Sakyamuni-bul, San-shin, Chil-seong.
Left: the quite Shamanic-style San-shin of Bo-an-sa.
Above: its Goryeo-Dynasty Yaksa-yeorae-bul
[Buddha of Medicine] gold-painted stone statue,
flanked by twin bronze Buddhas, with drum in front.
On the back of the Main Hall, an unusual ending to the Zen "10-ox Series".
