Left: the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, the centerpiece of Lincoln Park on the west coast. We walked all the way over here from Stow Lake in GGP, after that hour of boating. First time i had ever been here. That's a cast of Rodin's "The Thinker" that i'm standing next to.
Yes, we joined the other 1,500,000 tourists who visit Alcatraz Prison/Island each year. The very next day after that hike, good weather still holding. Took a pleasant ferry-tour that included Angel Island and good views of the central Bay and the Golden Gate. Angel was nice, but we had no time for the good hike it deserves. Alcatraz ("The Rock") wasn't as disturbing or somber as we had thought it might be; surprisingly bland. I'd never done this before, in my 24 years associated with San Francisco...
Then, we hiked for 4 more hours along the west coast of San Francisco, all the way from Lincoln Park through the Seacliff neighborhood and the western edge of the Presidio to the southern foot of the Golden Gate Bridge! a really GREAT hike under a perfect blue sky!
Notice how in each of these photos, The Bridge gets closer... this one is on Baker Beach. There were naked gay guys out getting some sun, much to Lou's amusement...

Spray on the famous rocks of Baker Beach. Then, finally, with sore feet, at the entrance to The Bridge. We would've walked across it as a finale, but the sun was going down, so we just caught a bus back to a long hot bath at Mel's. What a day!

Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill is another of San Francisco's most famous landmarks. It offers a statue of "Columbus the Killer", great 1930 murals of the working people of SF, and sweeping views of The City and Bay. We went up there after getting off the Alcatraz boat; walking home thru North Beach, Chinatown & etc was the last thing we "did" in SF.
